Louisa started work on the writer commission at the beginning of September and enthused:

“I’m delighted to have been commissioned as the Dorset writer for Nature Calling. I’m looking forward to hearing local people’s stories about life in Dorset, and their connections with the local landscape. I’m especially keen to hear from those who haven’t traditionally been represented in nature and rural writing.

I used to think you needed to be an expert to be a nature writer, but now I believe anyone can be! As part of this role, I hope to learn more about the natural environment which has formed the backdrop to my life, and hopefully inspire others to do the same!”

With this in mind, Louisa would love to hear your responses to the following questions:

  • Whereabouts in Dorset do you live?
  • How long have you/your family lived there?
  • Any other places you/your family have lived? Please describe, and what it was like ‘moving in’.
  • Can you describe where you live? (Sights, sounds, smells, wildlife etc.)
  • What do you know about the history of where you live?
  • What work do you/your family do? If it takes place on the land/at sea, please describe.
  • Do you spend time in nature for leisure? Please describe if so.
  • What does the natural environment around you mean to you? Any favourite memories?
  • Do you know of any local myths or legends? If so, please describe.
  • Any other comments?

Please send your responses (written, video or audio, whichever is most accessible to you) and/or your favourite Dorset nature photos to Louisa Adjoa Parker by email: louisaadjoaparker@outlook.com

This will help Louisa shape her creative response to the Dorset landscape and the people who live here.
