Every landscape has a story to tell...

The Myths & Legends project is a collaborative project creating and sharing stories inspired by the landscapes of the South Dorset Ridgeway. Local storyteller Martin Maudsley worked with 180 school children from six schools to create this imaginative and fun series of Ridgeway myths and legends. We invite and encourage schoolchildren, teachers and families to read the stories aloud to each other to fully enjoy them.

A little about our storyteller

Martin Maudsley is a professional storyteller based in Bridport in Dorset, telling traditional tales and local legends for schools, community groups and national organisations. He has been collaborated with Dorset AONB on many projects using folk-tales and folk-songs to connect participants with nature, the seasons and a sense of place. He is also very active practically celebrating the seasons in and around his neighbourhood, including putting on Mummers Plays, Apple Days and Winter Wassails.

Teacher pack

We have a number of teacher packs still available. The packs contain all 7 tales in a folder and have been designed to allow students to print and construct their own paper books of the stories, maps and images to help inspire the discussion and exploration of this historical and beautiful part of our landscape.

Please contact us if you are a teacher and would like to receive one of our limited folders (please note that due to Covid-19 restrictions the Team are home working at present so there will be a delay in posting)
