In November 2023 the 34 designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs) in England and Wales were renamed as National Landscapes. A significant milestone in the next step in fully realising our vision to be the leading exemplars of how thriving, diverse communities can work with and for nature in the UK.

National Landscapes have a significant role to play in restoring ecosystems, providing food, storing carbon to mitigate the effects of climate change, safeguarding against drought and flooding, whilst also nurturing people’s health and wellbeing.

Over the past year, the landscapes of Dorset have benefitted from the extensive funding and expertise brought in by the Dorset National Landscape Partnership. Between April 2023 and March 2024, over £2 million has been invested in the natural beauty of the Dorset National Landscape, in turn benefitting wildlife and people across this nationally important protected landscape.

With this financial support, we have brought together land managers, communities, businesses and visitors to help conserve, enhance and celebrate the very diverse landscapes that are so special to Dorset.

“The launch of National Landscapes in November 2023 was a particular highlight for me, emphasising the valuable work that the Team does at both local and national level.”
