New volunteer role launches

We’re delighted to announce an exciting new partnership with Volunteer Centre Dorset to launch the Community Nature Buddy programme, an inspiring volunteer opportunity designed to help more people experience the benefits of connecting with nature.

As part of our ongoing commitment to improving wellbeing through access to the natural world, this new role invites volunteers to support individuals who may face barriers to getting outdoors. Whether it’s through gentle local walks, friendly conversations, sharing seasonal changes or encouraging gentle nature-based activities, Community Nature Buddies across Dorset will play a vital role in helping others feel more connected, calm, and cared for.

Why Nature?

Spending time in nature has been shown to reduce stress, ease anxiety, and improve overall mental health. But not everyone finds it easy to access green spaces or feel confident engaging with the outdoors. That’s where Community Nature Buddies come in, offering a gentle, one-to-one connection that brings the benefits of nature to people in a way that’s accessible, personal, and meaningful.

What does the role involve?

As a Community Nature Buddy, you’ll receive free training and ongoing support to help you feel confident in your role. You don’t need any special qualifications – just a friendly attitude, a willingness to listen, and a love for the natural world.

Volunteers will be matched with individuals in their local area who would benefit from regular contact and encouragement to engage with nature, whether that’s through phone calls, a chat in the garden or taking gentle walks together.

This initiative is about more than just volunteering, it’s about building community, reducing isolation and supporting mental wellbeing in a simple but powerful way. By giving just a little of your time, you can make a big difference in someone’s life.
