Celebrating Befriending Week

Befriending Week (1–7 November) is an opportunity to celebrate the volunteers and organisations bringing people and communities together. Here in Dorset, we run Nature Buddies, which offers a unique way to get involved through nature-based befriending.

This month, we’re proud to support Befriending Week—a national celebration of the incredible impact that friendship and connection can have on our wellbeing. Loneliness affects 1 in 6 people globally, but simple acts of kindness and companionship can make a world of difference.

Running from 1–7 November, Befriending Week shines a light on the volunteers and organisations who help reduce isolation and bring people together. It’s also a chance to explore new ways to connect – like through nature.

The Nature Buddies Network offers a welcoming way to get involved in nature-based befriending. Whether you’d like companionship to enjoy the outdoors, want to volunteer, or are part of an organisation that could host Nature Buddies, there’s a place for you.

Request a Nature Buddy

If you would like to spend more time outdoors but don’t want to go alone, Nature Buddies can help. Our friendly volunteers can accompany you to get outdoors and enjoy nature in a way that suits you. They can help you join a local group activity or explore nature from your doorstep.

Whether it’s a walk in the woods or planting bulbs together, spending time in nature can lift your mood, ease stress, and boost wellbeing. There is no cost involved.

Become a Nature Buddy Volunteer

If you enjoy being outside, love nature and want to make a difference, becoming a Nature Buddy could be a rewarding experience. Volunteers share their love of nature, offer companionship, and help others feel more confident. You’ll receive free training, resources, and join a supportive network of like-minded people.
