Current Travel Management on the A35 / Winterborne Abbas

Active traffic management is required on the A35 as part of National Grid’s pylon removal project

* Work is taking place between 25 November – 28 November and 2 December – 5 December

* Traffic management operational between 09:30am – 15:00pm on A35 in Winterbourne Abbas

* Pylon removal will transform the Dorset skyline

National Grid’s contractors for its landmark VIP project in Dorset, Morgan Sindall, will require the use of short-term traffic management on the A35, west of Winterbourne Abbas.

The short period of works is part of the construction phase of our VIP project in Dorset and is necessary to ensure the safety of residents, road users and our construction staff.

Two-way traffic lights will be in place to momentarily hold traffic travelling in both directions to allow construction vehicles to turn in the road. This will occur approximately four times an hour while traffic management is operational. At all other times the lights will be green, allowing traffic to flow as normal in both directions.

It has been agreed with Dorset Council and Highways England that active traffic management will be operational between the hours of 09:30am – 15:00pm between the 25 November – 28 November and 2 December – 5 December.

On behalf of National Grid and our contractors, Morgan Sindall, we would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

The VIP project is a major opportunity to enhance the west Dorset landscape. The works will transform views from the Hardy Monument and South Dorset Ridgeway,
enhancing the area’s natural beauty for the many local people and visitors who enjoy it. The project will see 22 pylons removed between Winterbourne Abbas and Friar Waddon.

If you have any questions about the planned lane closure, please get in touch with the VIP project team directly by calling 0330 134 0051 or sending an email to visualimpact@nationalgrid.com.
