Find out more about what the Wild Writing Course is about.
‘Wild Writing’ is creative writing inspired by, and in part among, the ‘wild’ outdoors, a simple way to get creative; sparking fresh energy, experiences and inspiration.
With tips and guidance to open up and explore creative space away from over-stressed, screen-tired daily routine through stimulating creative writing exercises and nature connection, and by physically stepping outside together into the elements to experience the senses and the living world. Then we pick up our pens, open to whatever happens next…creativity, memory and observation often flow fast and free as soon as we step outside of ourselves and pay attention to the natural environment around us.
‘Wild Writing’ is a new FREE six week course at three libraries in Dorset.
We will meet in either Wareham, Wimborne and Blandford Forum libraries to explore seasonal and nature themes with readings, images, and fun exercises and prompts to write, spark conversation, share ideas, and get inspired. At some point we will go outside together before returning to the library to share words or thoughts, and have a cup of tea! There are public green spaces we can visit within two minutes’ walk of the libraries. You don’t need to go far to find a bench by the river, or a tranquil garden full of birdsong and wildlife away from the bustle of the street.
‘Wild Writing’ offers prompts for creative writing, sharing, listening, and daydreaming….and general wellbeing by spending time in nature.
During the session you’ll be part of a small group under the experienced guidance of Stepping into Nature’s ‘wild’ writer, poet, and creative facilitator, Sarah Acton. Sarah has been delivering walks and workshops for us for the last two years, the most common feedback from participants is:
“I didn’t know I could do this” “it’s so much more fun than I thought it would be!”
All walks to gardens have accessible paths for motor scooters and benches to sit on, but you might like to bring a cushion. We will be outside for short periods, depending on weather, so please dress appropriately. You can come to one session or the course, for FREE! Tea/ coffee and biscuits are included as are all writing materials. All abilities welcome.
Course dates and information to book for each location can be found here.
