Sunset Walk: Dorset Hillforts
Join archaeologist Steve Wallis to explore Eggardon Hillfort’s impressive defences and a variety of other prehistoric remains on and around it, and – weather permitting – a glorious sunset.

Eggardon Hill iron age hillfort may not be as well-known as its big brother Maiden Castle, but it arguably has the best views in the Dorset AONB! Join archaeologist Steve Wallis to explore its impressive defences and a variety of other prehistoric remains on and around it. The walk has been timed in the hope of seeing the seven other hillforts in the area looking their best around sunset, bringing our Landscapes for Life festival to a stunning close.
This event is part of our Landscape for Life Festival, celebrating 60 years of the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
We’ve asked some very special people who live and work in this rich and vibrant landscape to share the places they love with you. Join artists, story-tellers, wildlife experts, geologists, farmers, archaeologists to uncover what makes the landscape so outstanding… and find your own place to love along the way. See the full programme of events.
