Have a go: Fingerpost Restoration Session

Join restoration expert Roger Bond and his team of volunteers to find out about the 100s of fingerposts restored by volunteers and have a go at preparing, painting and fixing letters to their latest refurbished fingerpost.

Renovated fingerpost at Charminster

About the event

Fingerposts are a unique feature of the Dorset countryside but of the 1,285 fingerposts thought to exist in the 1950s, just 717 survive today. In Dorset, our ‘Fingerpost Champions’ have been saving these fingerposts from extinction and restoring them back to their former glory.

Join restoration expert Roger Bond and his team of volunteers to find out about the 100s of fingerposts already restored by volunteers. Get hands on by having a go yourself at preparing, painting and fixing letters to their latest refurbished fingerposts.  No previous knowledge or experience required to take part, just enthusiasm – all ages and abilities welcome.

We have lots more information on our website if you would like to find out more about these much loved landmarks.

This have-a-go session is part of series of activities and events taking place throughout the year to celebrate 60 years of the Dorset AONB designation.
