Have a go: River Restoration

All hands on deck!  We need you to help bring the lovely, little River Asker back to life!  It doesn’t matter if you are young or old, on your own or with your family, experienced or haven’t a clue: we’ll find something for you to do!  And it doesn’t matter how small you think your contribution will be, it will make a massive difference!

About the event

Come along and lend a hand to give life to the River Asker, one of England’s precious chalk streams.  We’ll be opening up some of the bank-side vegetation so that light can get into the dark and dingy river bank.  This will allow bank side plants and river weeds to thrive.  These, in-turn, will play home to insects and small fish that are food for bigger fish, kingfishers and even the occasional otter!

The session will be led by experts from Dorset Wildlife Trust with their band of merry volunteers.  No experience is needed (just enthusiasm).  All equipment will be provided, along with instructions.  Just bring old, warm clothes and either wellies or sturdy boots.

You can stay for the whole session of just for an hour or two; no-one will mind.

This event is part of our celebrations for 60 years of the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
