If you’re looking to improve your wellbeing, make new friends and spend more time outdoors, Dorset National Landscape have ‘Nature Buddies’ that can help you take that first step.
Nature Buddies is a free, Dorset-wide initiative that connects people with local nature-based activities and groups. Friendly, trained ‘Nature Buddy’ volunteers within these groups provide support and encouragement, helping people feel welcome and confident when joining an activity for the first time. From guided walks and wildlife activities to community gardening and conservation projects, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.
Numerous studies prove that spending time in nature reduces stress, boosts mood and supports overall wellbeing, while shared activities can help people make new connections and feel part of their local community. Dorset National Landscape want to make sure nature is accessible to more people, whatever the barrier and have seen the positive difference it can make to people when they have someone alongside them to try a new activity.
Kate Townsend, Nature Buddies Project Coordinator explains “It’s wonderful to see people trying something new outdoors and being made to feel so welcome. Having that friendly support can make all the difference – it helps people feel comfortable, included and part of the group.”
