Spring is here!

With the coldest of the winter days behind us, spring is calling to us to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh new season.

Over the coming months, slow down when you’re outdoors and take a closer look at what’s unfurling. Hedgerows never disappoint, bursting into bloom early, and quietly doing the important work of sheltering wildlife. Listen out for the chatter of birds too. The dawn chorus starts to build, with robins, sparrows and wrens defending their hedgerow territories with the loudest of songs. And keep an eye out for hedgehogs, waking up and wandering out of hibernation.

Look out for the lush green leaves of bluebells pushing up in woodlands and keep your nose sniffing for the heady smell of wild garlic!

Here’s a selection of places to go to see, hear and smell nature at its springtime best.
